My answer to #6 (brief description of project):
Essentially this project is the next step in reflective daylighting. Most reflective daylight techniques utilize a single reflective surface at a specific normal derived from incident solar vector, the focus, and the reflector points. This project utilizes thorough analysis of daylighting conditions to create a site specific reflective “lantern” which allows for daylighting to be distributed throughout the different parts of the building during different times of the day. The typical daylighting application takes a single source, reflects it a single direction and the angle of light will shift as the sun revolves around the earth. This project captures the light from the moving source with difference angular plans that allow the light to be beneficial at all points of the day, providing necessary daylight as well as intriguing and beautiful lighting patterns. I really have no criticism of the project, only praise for its design and use of grasshopper and rhino in the design process. It’s nice to see a thorough description of the real world applications of the tools learned in this class.
